When a simple Instagram Story by Monroe sparked headlines, her father Nick Cannon stepped in to explain what really happened. In a new Club Shay Shay interview with Shannon Sharpe he says her words were misread and taught a wider lesson about social media. Read on to discover the full story!

Taken out of context

In November 2025 Monroe posted to her Instagram Stories to "clear something up," writing she "only have ONE brother who is @moroccan.cannon" and noting her other half-siblings are much younger. Cannon, 45, told Sharpe that the clip was misinterpreted and that it grew from a teenage conversation and online users falsely claiming to be siblings.

A fatherly lesson

Cannon said his 15-year-old daughter was upset by the backlash; he reminded her she didn’t owe explanations but that she must be careful about what she shares online. He added she was apologetic to him and to siblings who were too young to understand the situation.
