Warnings Ignored

Media outlets reported that some bystanders managed to escape the water's grip. Furthermore, RTVE, the state broadcaster, reminded that the authorities had previously cautioned about hazardous waves. The natural pools, popular among vacationers, can quickly turn deadly in rough seas: The gigantic waves can pull people out to the open sea, where strong currents often hinder their return.

This is not the first instance of calamity on Tenerife. Just weeks prior, on November 8, a similar situation occurred, resulting in three deaths and numerous injuries. The island finds itself grieving yet again after this tragic episode.
